Department: Building Construction Services
Location: New Port Richey
General Description: Advanced and responsible technical work in inspecting building construction, alteration, and repair to enforce compliance with adopted building codes.
Essential Job Functions:Inspects building construction to ensure compliance with codes and regulations. Makes final inspections of building against approved plans to ensure that the plans have been complied with. Performs records maintenance, clerical work, and activity reports. Answers telephone questions from the public pertaining to building problems. Issues verbal and written instructions to contractors and other interested parties to correct building violations. Performs building plans examination in absence of plans examination staff. Performs related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Advanced knowledge of the materials and methods used in general building construction.
Advanced knowledge of the building trade and of stages of construction when possible defects and violations may most easily be observed and corrected.
Exceptional ability to understand established building codes.
Exceptional ability to recognize faulty construction or hazardous conditions.
Exceptional ability to read and interpret building construction plans and specifications.
Exceptional ability to enforce codes and regulations firmly, tactfully, and impartially.
Exceptional ability to maintain records and to prepare and submit reports.
Exceptional ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, contractors, engineers, and the public
Minimum Requirements:
PHYSICAL SKILLS: Ability to lift and/or move up to 45 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects. May use a handling device (dolly, cart, etc.) or work with another team member to lift and/or move excessively heavy objects. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written, and visual communication. Requires working indoors and outdoors. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle to visit job sites. Must be able to walk, stoop, bend, and climb to make inspections.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma supplemented by seven years of experience in a building construction trade as a supervisor, building inspector, foreman, or building contractor.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Standard Certification in accordance with Chapter 468, Florida Statutes, as a Building Inspector and Building Plans Examiner. Must possess a valid driver's license.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
