Finance Clerk (General Ledger)

General Description Benefits Supplemental Questions
Under general supervision, performs accounting functions relating to the fiscal transactions of the Pasco County Clerk & Comptroller. Duties include performing a variety of complex accounting and clerical work; applying accepted procedures to the preparation and maintenance of accounting records and reports.
Examples of Duties (Essential Functions):Reconcile Child Support pre-payment register to daily receipts journal. perform electronic funds (EFT), and enter deposits bank transfers.
Maintain subsidiary ledgers including suspense. tax deeds, cash bonds, refunds, restitution, registry and unclaimed funds. Enter deposits and disbursements, balance to financial system monthly.
Prepare reports for Doc Stamps, Intangible Tax, perform EFT for DOR payments; reconcile general ledger accounts; verify receipts and balance to the revenue report.
Process data into the financial system in order to pay vendors, issue refunds, restitution and disbursements from the Operating and Registry Accounts.
Verify accuracy of refund and restitution receipts for payment. Reconcile refunds and restitution accounts monthly.
Enter data into Jury and Witness System to compensate Witnesses according to Florida Statutes.
Enter daily bank transfer forms with documentation.
Verify account balance in trial balance with State/Municipalities reports and prepare for payment processing. Edit reports through accounting system.
Review accounts payable invoices for accuracy and process in financial system.
Reconcile bank statements to financial system monthly.
Post payroll journal entries.
Assist customers on the phone or via email in a professional and timely manner.
Reconcile daily cashiering deposits. Update system interfaces through financial system. Verify accuracy of voided transactions and completeness of paperwork
Order supplies for Clerk's Finance.
Box and label paperwork and files to be sent to the Records Retention Center.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications and Minimum Qualifications:Graduation from an accredited high school or possess an accredited equivalency diploma. Higher education courses in bookkeeping and/or accounting preferred. Two years experience in bookkeeping and/or the maintenance of fiscal records, preferably in accounts payable or receivable. A comparable amount of training and/or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. Type 30 cwpm preferred.
Basic skills testing such as typing, spelling, grammar, and math may be required for this position.
No supervisory responsibility.
A valid driver's license is required.

Ability to perform mathematical calculations with speed and accuracy. Ability to perform numerical and alphabetical input into an automated system quickly and accurately.
Ability to interpret financial obligations of invoices and purchase orders.
Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions and terminology.
Ability to operate a calculator. Ability to use a personal computer (PC), printer, copier, fax, and general office equipment.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the vendors, co-workers, employees in other departments and other government agencies. Ability to effectively communicate with vendors, County employees and teammates.
Ability to work with the confidential and/or sensitive data while complying with state and federal legal regulations and legal advice restrictions for the Clerk & Comptroller office. Discretion must be used as to what and to whom information is released to ensure compliance with all federal and state privacy protection laws and regulations. Protection of employee/patient privacy is of paramount importance to this organization.
Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time, while concentrating on repetitious or complex tasks ina fast paced environment with frequent interruptions while maintaining speed and accuracy. Ability to work within deadline constraints and workload surges. Ability to occasionally lift and carry boxes that may weigh up to 50 pounds.
Position and duty location may vary between East and West side of the County based on workload.
Current employee may receive preference.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
